My home country of Holland is about as far away from Discovery as you can get.   I was born in Enschede and I worked in Amsterdam as a software consultant.  In 2002 my Mum and I started out on a 6 week trip around New Zealand.  On one day we drove the full distance from Whangarei in the far north straight through to World Heritage Park Tongariro. Being tourists from Holland, we wanted to savour as much as we could of the countryside.  It was sunset, and one of those stunning sunsets that only National Park can produce.  It was the most amazing orange—our national colour.  We turned into the driveway and kept driving.  And started fretting for in Holland anywhere with a long driveway is expensive.  We were, however, given a very decent rate and it soon became clear why as it really was the initial ‘down payment’ on a relationship.

In March 2003 I returned to Discovery and it is well and truly my home. Our two children were born at Discovery so it will always have a most special place in my heart. I love welcoming people from New Zealand and all over the world and introducing them to a very remarkable place.
